Life of a Whippet
By Darren M. Grine

I am the one who lives to run
I don’t stop till the chase is done
Coming out on top makes me number one

To many, I’m considered a sighthound
But don’t think of me as a greyhound
I’m a whippet, this makes me different all around.

My motto is that I live for today
My elegance impresses, to everyone’s dismay
One of my favorite things to do is to instigate play.

My appearance seems to be very fragile
In fact you can see that I am actively agile
At times, I’m considered a canine projectile,

My body is shaped to be aerodynamic
All of my curves make me geometric
My strength and speed make me ecstatic.

The coat that I have is very colorful
Dark to brindle, my looks can be an eyeful
My artistic appearance is outright undeniable.

At times I’m finicky, but I love to eat
After a hearty meal, I head for the nearest sofa seat
Later awakened from a nap, I jump quickly to my feet.

I consider myself head of the household
Many times I don’t obey and do as I’m told
But escape reprimand because my looks are good as gold.

I am loyal to one master only
A thought of being with another is not to be
My master and his family will always be treasured by me.
